St Albans High School for Girls is a selective, independent day school for girls aged 4 – 18 years, which is affiliated to the Church of England. There are approximately 328 pupils in the preparatory school with 900 in the senior school and 186 sixth formers.​

The Challenge

Babble had previously supplied St Albans High School for Girls with a Toshiba CIX670 equipped for ISDN30 and 85 extensions in July 2007. This serviced the school well for 14 years; however, they wanted to upgrade to a VoIP-based solution. This would need to be integrated with mobile smartphones and require Babble to manage the system in-house with their dedicated IT team. There was also a strong requirement to offer paging throughout the entire school, this was to be used in the case of the school going into a lockdown situation for example.

The Results

After discussing the current requirements with their IT department at the school, it was decided to deploy a Gamma-hosted Education Solution. This provided the required features such as reliable paging throughout the school and an upgraded VoIP solution integrated with mobiles.

The Gamma-hosted solution offered many additional benefits for disaster recovery, and homeworking, as well as making mobile integrations smooth and easy. Our solution also moved the system from a CAPEX model, which required the school to tie up large amounts of budget on supplying costly equipment, to a more affordable OPEX model which proved to be very cost-effective, in fact, it resulted in cost reductions.
